The Danish Film Institute has released a Blu-ray disc with two of Dreyer's silent films: Love One Another (Die Gezeichneten) and The Bride of Glomdal (Glomdalsbruden). The release contains a small booklet with articles about the two films written by lecturer at the University of Copenhagen Casper Tybjerg and external lecturer Morten Egholm. Both films have been restored and feature a new score composed by pianist Ronen Thalmay.
This is the first time the films are available on disc in Denmark. The intertitles are in both Danish and English, as are the articles in the booklet. Love One Another and The Bride of Glomdal will also be released on dvd.
The two films
'Love One Another' was for many years considered a lost film, until the 1960s, when it was found in the Russian film archive Gosfilmofond under the title Pogrom. Love One Another has been restored from the original Russian print, now kept in the Cinémathèque de Toulouse.
'The Bride of Glomdal' has been digitally re-mastered from the camera negative, which is held by The National Library of Norway. The Bride of Glomdal was shot quickly in the summer of 1926, before Dreyer went to France to make La passion de Jeanne d’Arc.
